Kapu Rajaiah PaintingsKapu Rajaiah, born in a poor family in a remote place of Siddipet of Medak district, is known for revolutionary changes in the modern Indian art. His work popularized the fragrance of rural breeze moist with the fragrance of earth and sweat of toiling masses.

He made an imprint for introducing folklore and rural traditions of art into Indian modern art. His paintings speak of men and women of varied communities characteristic of Telangana villages.

He developed a style that is a unique blend of Nakashi and other folk art forms. The result is unforgettable colour enriching life of rural folk, Vaddera women, Yellamma Jogi, fishermen, potters, toddy tappers, basket weavers, or fortune tellers or festive mood of Kolatam, vasantha keli. His paintings are a magical interplay of primary colours

Kapu Rajaiah Paintings

His works have traveled worldwide and had several awards and honours showered on him. Rajaiah’s paintings are seen in several art schools, museums, public and private institutions world wide. His works were exhibited in major cities of India and around the world (Australia, Czechoslovakia, Rumania, Bulgaria, Hungary etc). Several times his paintings were presented in one man shows both nationally and internationally.Over 50 awards were conferred on Rajaiah for his unique imprint of rural life. Kapu Rajaiah was honoured by state government as Rajata Patra (1966), Tamra Patra (1969), Chitra Kala Prapurna (1975), and Kala Praveena conferred by JNTU in 1993

His life is intriguing with simplicity of a rural man talked about in art schools at home and abroad. Rajaiah began his career as drawing teacher and is a multi faceted personality. He is also a writer and has associated with stage too.

1925 April 6 : Born in Siddipet of Medak district
1943 : Admitted into Central School of Arts and Crafts in Hyderabad
1945 : Received Lower Group in Arts from Madras
1946 : Intermediate certificate in Arts from Hyderabad
1947 : Diploma in Art and Higher teacher training certificate
1952 : Higher secondary certificate from Hyderabad.
1966 : Rajata Patra
1969 : Tamra Patra
1975 : Chitra Kala Prapurna
1993 : Kala Praveena conferred by JNTU

    అథను వెసెయ్ చీర కత్తు చెప్పుకొ తగినది అలంతి స్త్య్లె ఇథర చిత్రకరులలొ అగుపదదు.
